How Do I Care for My Implant Dentures?

With proper home care and regular check-ups, implant denture maintenance is simple. Watch our video with Dr. Bivona for more tips to ensure your dentures last a lifetime.

If you’ve already had implants placed and are wearing an implant denture, caring for it is relatively straightforward. An implant denture, which is a regular denture that snaps onto implants, should be treated much like a traditional denture. You’ll want to brush your denture at night, but it’s important to also remove it to brush your implants directly, both in the morning and at night. One advantage of implant dentures is that you can sleep with them, unlike regular dentures, which many people prefer to remove at night. Implant dentures stay securely in place, so there’s no worry about them coming loose or being misplaced.

If you have an implant-retained bridge, such as a full-arch restoration that is permanently attached, home care is also quite simple. We recommend using a water flosser, which we provide free of charge with every procedure. Using it twice a day, you can easily clean under the bridge to keep your gums healthy and prevent bacteria from accumulating.

Even though home care is easy, it’s still important to keep your regular six-month dental appointments. During these visits, we’ll do a thorough cleaning, check that everything is in good condition, and polish your prosthesis. With consistent brushing, using your water flosser, and attending your regular check-ups, maintaining your implant-supported denture or bridge is a breeze.
