There is no feeling quite like having your smile back. When your final denture arrives and perfectly fits the contours of your mouth, that new smile likely means the world to you. Now you can talk and eat with little hesitation! However, this security may not last as long as you would hope. Unfortunately, many denture wearers struggle with adjusting to the bulky prosthetic in their mouth. Additionally, traditional dentures loosen over time, requiring frequent denture relines or replacements. Fortunately, Bivona Family Dental offers a different kind of denture replacement using dental implants! With these titanium posts, we secure your denture for a comfortable and lasting fit!
Why Is a Denture Replacement Necessary?
With traditional denture solutions, your prosthetic often becomes loose over time.
This is because when you lose teeth, you lose the vital tooth roots embedded in your jawbone that provide stimulation. As you chew or bite, your roots apply pressure to your jaw, promoting bone health! Without these roots for stimulation, your jawbone will begin to resorb, losing mass and volume.
Traditional dentures replace only the surface of your smile, failing to replace the roots below your gums and allowing your jawbone to continue shrinking underneath your prosthetic. Unfortunately, traditional dentures rely on your jawbone for stability, so bone resorption greatly impacts the fit of your denture.
Loose dentures have unfortunate consequences for patients like you, such as:
- Experiencing gum irritation: When your prosthetic is loose, it floats around on your gums, irritating the soft tissues. In many cases, this causes denture sores, which make wearing your denture painful.
- Having difficulties chewing: To break down foods, you need a strong bite. Loose dentures lack the necessary force to break down tough foods, often leading to changes in diet and a lack of nutrition in patients.
- Developing oral infections: With a loose denture, food often gets trapped underneath the prosthetic. Unfortunately, this can increase your risk of oral infections as it allows bacteria to grow and spread.
Fortunately, Bivona Family Dental has different denture replacement solutions!
Experience the Stability of a Dental Implant
Dental implants are titanium posts we place in the jawbone to support restorations like dentures.
Using these implants, we secure your prosthetic and ensure your smile is stable and comfortable. Additionally, implants replace your tooth roots, providing the necessary stimulation to prevent bone loss! With dental implants, your dentures will remain secure and functional without needing frequent relines and replacements.
To place dental implants, we always start with a free consultation. Because implants require ample bone structure for placement, we provide a free 3D digital X-ray of your smile to evaluate your jawbone. If you lack the necessary bone structure for a conventional dental implant, we may recommend a mini dental implant as an alternative! However, we can also provide bone graft procedures to rebuild lost bone, making you an excellent candidate for dental implants.
At your procedural appointment, we use a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout the placement process. Once the anesthetic takes effect, we’ll make a careful incision in your gums. Then, using a sequence of drills that increase in size, we’ll create a hole in your jaw to fit the implant body. Conventional dental implants have a multi-piece design that we place at separate appointments.
At your first appointment, we place the implant body, or screw. Over a period of 3 to 6 months, your implant will bond with your jaw to provide a secure foundation for your restoration. At your next appointment, we’ll place your abutment or connector piece, allowing your denture restoration to attach to your implant.
When your final denture arrives, we will secure it on your implants so you can enjoy a more stable smile!
The Cost of a Denture Replacement
While denture relines are often less expensive than implant denture replacement options, they are much more frequent, adding up in cost over time.
In contrast, dental implants are built to last! If you maintain proper oral hygiene care and take good care of your implants, your implant denture replacement can last a lifetime.
However, dental implants are often considered expensive. Titanium is an incredibly strong and reliable material that doctors use for hip replacements. The price for that level of stability can be steep, but we believe it is worth it to invest in your smile.
Alternatively, mini dental implants provide the same stability at a lower cost! Because they require fewer components and appointments, mini implants are often more affordable than conventional implants. At your free consultation, we will discuss your budget and which implant is best for your smile.
Bivona Family Dental also partners with third-party financing companies that offer flexible financing options. With your costs split into manageable monthly payments, you can enjoy a secure denture replacement without breaking the bank.
Enjoy a Stable Smile With Your Implant Denture Replacement!
Traditional dentures may replace your smile, but they lack the long-lasting stability that implant dentures provide. With dental implants in place, we provide a denture replacement that keeps your smile secure for years to come.
