What Is a Root Canal?

Discover how a root canal can relieve pain and preserve your tooth. Our video explains the procedure and how it can restore your dental health.

A root canal is a procedure where we remove the nerve from the inside of a tooth. This is typically necessary if there is bacteria or an infection inside the tooth, or if the nerve has become so damaged that you’re experiencing significant pain. The goal of a root canal is to eliminate the source of the pain and infection while preserving the tooth itself, so you don’t have to undergo an extraction or other surgical procedure.

During a root canal, we carefully remove the infected or damaged nerve tissue, disinfect the interior of the tooth, and then seal it to prevent further infection. While a root canal isn’t always the best solution for every situation, it can be the most effective way to quickly relieve pain and restore your tooth to good health.
