What does a smile mean to you? For many, it’s more than just an expression—it’s a way to connect, communicate, and share joy. A smile can light up a room, show confidence, or simply reflect how we’re feeling inside. It’s more powerful than we often realize! The act of smiling has also been shown to provide numerous benefits to your mind and body. When smiling, your body releases neurotransmitters that relieve stress, elevate mood, and reduce pain! So why do so many hesitate to smile? When missing teeth as an adult, smiling may make you feel embarrassed or self-conscious. Here at Bivona Family Dentistry, we believe everyone deserves to smile without hesitation. To that end, we offer mini dental implants as an ideal tooth replacement solution that can melt away your insecurity.

Why Is It Important To Replace Missing Teeth?

Missing Teeth in Jasper, AL | Book a Free Consultation TodayWhile missing teeth do affect your smile and your self-esteem, they also cause oral health problems:

  • Shifting teeth: When missing teeth, the nearby teeth can shift, causing your bite to change. A misaligned bite affects your ability to chew and speak. It can also put too much pressure on your jaw joints, increasing your risk of developing TMJ disorders.
  • Bone resorption: Natural teeth have roots embedded into your jawbone that stimulate the bone when you bite and chew. When that stimulation stops because of tooth loss, your bone will lose mass and volume. A weakened jawbone may result in excessive wrinkling around the mouth, changes in your facial structure, and functional issues.
  • Gum disease: After losing teeth, the gaps in your smile and changes in your teeth positioning make it more difficult to clean your mouth. That’s because there are more hard-to-reach areas where bacteria can build up. Insufficient oral hygiene leads to an increased risk of gum disease. This infection is caused by bacteria that irritate and inflame the gums, damaging the tissue and jawbone.

Don’t let your missing teeth prevent you from having a happy and healthy smile! Replacing teeth with mini dental implants could be the key to restoring your confidence and oral health.

What Are Mini Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium posts that we anchor into the jawbone to support crowns, bridges, or dentures. At Bivona Family Dentistry, we offer two kinds of dental implants: traditional and mini dental implants. Mini dental implants may not be the answer for all cases of missing teeth, but their many benefits make them suitable for most!

Mini dental implants are the smaller implant option, as they are less than 3 millimeters in diameter. Their sleek build allows us to place these implants using a minimally invasive technique that doesn’t require incisions or stitches. That’s pretty different from traditional implants, which require us to make an incision into the gums and use a series of larger and larger drills to create a hole in your jawbone. For mini implants, we create a small pilot hole in the gum and bone, significantly reducing procedure time and recovery period.

Mini implants also have a one-piece design that allows us to place them in one appointment! On the other hand, traditional implants require multiple components, each placed over separate appointments with healing time in between. With mini implants, we can often place the implant and your final restoration on the same day, giving you instant results and a beautifully restored smile!

In addition to a quicker procedure, the mini implant’s one-piece design reduces the risk of infection! Traditional implants have micro-spaces between pieces that can trap bacteria, increasing your risk of gum disease and peri-implantitis. Mini implants reduce this risk, providing a safe and streamlined placement process.

What Makes Mini Implants More Accessible?

At Bivona Family Dentistry, we believe everyone deserves to smile without a second thought. Unfortunately, many barriers prevent people from replacing missing teeth with dental implants.

Conventional dental implants are often expensive, as you pay for each component, multiple appointments, and additional services like bone grafts to be eligible for the procedure. Mini implants, however, are only made of one piece, need a single appointment to be placed, and typically don’t require bone grafting! Due to their narrow diameter, mini implants don’t need as much bone, making them an excellent option for those with reduced bone density or volume.

If you find yourself ineligible for conventional implants due to increased costs, appointments, or insufficient bone, you are likely still a candidate for mini dental implants.

These innovative implants break down barriers to exceptional dental care. Their incredible benefits make them more affordable and accessible than traditional implants, making them available to a wider range of patients.
