Can an Implant Be Placed the Same Time a Tooth Is Extracted?
Discover how you can get a dental implant and temporary crown in just one visit—minimizing downtime and keeping your smile intact—in the following video.
My goal is to minimize any disruption to your daily life and work when undergoing dental procedures. To achieve this, we often combine multiple procedures into a single appointment. Traditionally, replacing a tooth with an implant involved extracting the tooth, grafting the area, and then waiting several months, sometimes up to a year, for healing before placing the implant. This process can be lengthy and requires multiple surgical visits.
However, with advances in dental techniques, if the bone is of suitable shape, size, and density, we can often place a dental implant on the same day as the tooth extraction. This approach significantly reduces the number of surgical appointments needed. For example, if you’re losing a back tooth, I prefer to extract the tooth and place the implant in one visit. As your extraction site heals, the implant bonds with the bone, so by the time your gums have healed—an accelerated process with our PRF technology—the implant is ready for a crown.
In cases involving a front tooth, I understand the importance of aesthetics. We can frequently extract the tooth, place the implant, and provide a temporary crown all in one day. This allows you to continue your daily activities without noticeable gaps in your smile. I’ve had patients with broken front teeth who have left our office the same day with a temporary crown, fully confident and able to participate in public activities like singing in the church choir that very evening.
If you’re interested in replacing a tooth with a dental implant, I would love to meet with you, show you the results we’ve achieved, and discuss how we can help you. Please give us a call to schedule a consultation.
